The Two Pennies tells the true story of the Millar family in the lead up to Titanic's maiden voyage in 1912. It is a unique insight into how the tragedy affected ordinary lives, in particular those of Thomas Millar's two sons. The story continues to describe the aftermath of Titanic's sinking, using the voices of several different characters.
Tommy Millar worked for the Harland & Wolff engine shop and was involved in the construction of both the Olympic and Titanic. He sailed aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage, leaving behind his two sons. He gave each boy two new pennies before he left and had them promise not to spend them until they saw him again. Days later, Tommy was lost in the Titanic's sinking. One of his two sons was true to his word and never spend the pennies, eventually passing them down through the family.
Two Pennies is written by Tommy Millar's great granddaughter, Susie.
