However, history is made up of people and not just steel, iron and rivets.In this historical fiction format, the story is told not just by the ship itself, but by two main human characters. Titanic enthusiasts will recognize the character Harold Thomas as based on Harold Cottam, the actual Carpathia Marconi operator on the fateful trip in 1912. While his name has been changed in order to add a relationship to the female character, most of his words and actions on the night of the Titanic disaster are based on his actual history, statements and interviews.Elizabeth Hadnot and her parents are fictional characters made up from a combination of actual Titanic survivors and their experiences on the fateful night.
